UCLA Chancellor Leaving in June 2006

UCLA announced today that Chancellor Albert Carnesale, who began with the University in July 1997, will return to "teaching, scholarship and engagement in public policy issues" after a sabbatical.

There has been a lot of change over the past few years in the UC system. UC President Robert Dynes took over in 2003 after Richard Atkinson stepped down. Dynes was the UC San Diego Chancellor; he was replaced by Marye Anne Fox in April 2004.

Chancellor Robert Birgeneau joined UC Berkeley in September 2004 after former Chancellor Robert Berdahl stepped down. UC Santa Cruz Chancellor M.R.C. Greenwood was appointed UC provost and senior vice president for academic affairs in 2004; new UC Santa Cruz Chancellor Denice Denton began in February 2005. UC Irvine Chancellor Michael Drake began just two months ago in July 2005, replacing Ralph Cicerone, who was elected president of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.

I wonder who will be tapped to replace Carnesale?
