We Read Books
FMC recently discovered the joys of Dan Brown and read The Da Vinci Code late last year. He liked it so much that I bought him Angels & Demons for Christmas and the illustrated version of The Da Vinci Code and Secrets of the Code: The Unauthorized Guide to the Mysteries Behind The Da Vinci Code for his birthday.
I hadn't read any of Brown's books, mostly because I tend not to read "blockbusters" - not that I'm a book snob, but, well, okay, I'm a book snob. I just don't like reading something because everyone else is reading it. But eventually I read it anyways, because everyone else has already read it and has moved on to the next big thing, or because I'm stuck at LAX and airport stores don't sell Hesse novels.
This Saturday, I finally broke down and read Angels & Demons. It was actually pretty good, especially when I got to the end and there was a STARTLING TWIST! And the people I thought were the bad guys were the good guys! And the good guy was the bad guy! And Robert Langdon LIVED! Despite falling a mile from the sky with nothing but a McDonald's napkin to slow his descent!
Then on Sunday, I read The Da Vinci Code. And like the first book, it was pretty good. And surprisingly, there was another SHOCKING CONCLUSION! And a BETRAYAL OF TRUST! And a sexy smart lady with the hots for Robert Langdon! (Man, he gets more pussy than an animal shelter!)
But unfortunately, all that reading about the dark secrets of the Catholic church gave me a nightmare that I was in line to become a bishop, except I was pregnant, so a cardinal was going to give me an abortion so no one would know I wasn't celibate. And I didn't want an abortion! Or to be a bishop!
I'm thinking Jesus needs to keep a more careful eye on my subconscious, or maybe just on my reading list.
