Cleland To Run?

Via Bread & Circuses, I see that Vietnam vet and former Senator Max Cleland, who was despicably slandered by the Repugs in 2002, may run for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia against Ralph Reed, former head of the Christian Coalition and current chairman of the Georgia Republican party.

Reed was chairman during the sliming of Cleland by Saxby Chambliss, the Republican congressman who defeated Cleland after running ads that criticized the triple-amputee Vietnam veteran's commitment to national security and used photos of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein to illustrate the point.

This article regarding Reed's run notes that he has been endorsed former Democratic Senator Zell Miller, whose ugly rant against John Kerry at the RNC last year made him beloved by frothing rightwingers everywhere. Miller stood up for Cleland in 2002, but I guess he's conveniently "forgotten" about the whole incident now.

FYI, Reed is linked closely to corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who paid Reed's consulting firm more than $4 million to organize opposition to Indian casinos - with money from other Indian tribes with rival casinos. And while Reed claimed he didn't know the money came from gambling interests, his email trails seem to prove otherwise. What a good Christian boy Ralph is!

I'd love to see Cleland come back and demolish Reed. Let's hope he runs and make sure he wins.
